My name is Adam Giles. I am currently 21 years old and live in Beaumont, in Essex and teaching in Clacton-on-Sea. I am a Primary Science Education graduate from Edge Hill University since 2021.
I am currently an Early Career Teacher (ECT) in Year 1 at Cann Hall Primary School in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex. I started my final placement of university at Cann Hall in a Year 2 class and have furthered my career here in Year 1.
In the classroom, I am very passionate about the subjects of science and history and I will strive to teach a balanced curriculum with sufficient emphasis on the foundation subjects as well as core. When I am not in the classroom, I like to bake and cook as well as play golf with my family.
My degree is in Primary Science Education meaning that I specialise in Science teaching as my major specialism as well as specialising in history in my minor specialism. I have had a more in depth experience in these two subjects throughout my degree and enjoy teaching these subjects the most.
Through my three phases of professional practice I have taught in classrooms consisting of a split Year 4/5 class, a split Year 3/4 class and a Year 2 class. While completing these placements I encountered numerous children with SEN/D and because of this I have increased my understanding of how to work effectively with those with addition
Through my three phases of professional practice I have taught in classrooms consisting of a split Year 4/5 class, a split Year 3/4 class and a Year 2 class. While completing these placements I encountered numerous children with SEN/D and because of this I have increased my understanding of how to work effectively with those with additional learning requirements. I have completed my 3rd placement in year 2 and continued volunteering in the same class until officially taking over as class teacher in April 2021. I am currently teaching Year 1.
I aim to dive straight into teaching in the September after I graduate. I look forward to my EC years at whichever school I have the pleasure of teaching at and I will make sure that I promote a balanced curriculum in whatever classroom I have. My main goal is to progress to a science subject leader in my school and possibly one day move on to becoming a
As a teacher, I will strive to promote a balanced curriculum that encourages students and staff to embrace the foundation subjects just as much as the core subjects. Having history as my minor specialism has showed me that the foundation subjects are a vital part of our curriculum and although they are often overlooked in favour of other subjects, children should value their leaning in all of their subjects and I will aim to nourish their love of learning for every subject.
As well as a history specialist, I major in science. As with the foundation subjects, science is constantly overlooked as a core subject and it is my mission to show that scientific knowledge is as necessary as the knowledge of English and mathematics. When I have been in schools in the past on professional practice I have quickly taken a leading role in science within the classroom in order to give the children a deeper understanding of scientific concepts. Alongside this, I value hands-on, experimental learning as well as Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) as these core values are prominent in science and should be transferred across all subjects in the curriculum.
Children will feel valued in my classroom and I will encourage a love of learning in all students. i got into teaching because I wanted to help children in the way I was helped by some of the best teachers I ever had. these teachers showed me what a huge positive impact a good teacher can have in a child's life and how it can shape who they are as a person for years to come. I believe that building meaningful relationships with each child is the best way to get them to want to learn, and love the learning that they undertake in my classroom. I look forward to having my own class in the near future where I can instil my values and philosophy and make a meaningful impact in the lives of the children I have the pleasure to teach.
